11:00AM Dorm Breakfast Event
Free food splurge! 2 small sausage links (160 calories), 2 pieces of bacon (66 calories), 1 pancake (150 calories), 1/2 cup of scrambled eggs (180 calories), 2 oz. spiral ham (100 calories), 2 tbsp table syrup (100 calories), and 8 oz. of orange juice (110 calories). Oh my god, I'm going to have to seriously cut back on the rest of today… The funny thing is, the eggs didn't even taste good. They needed salt, which was nowhere to be found at the event. Well there's the lesson for today: don't eat it just because it's on your plate. Could have saved myself 180 calories without those tasteless eggs. But seriously, as a college student, it's so hard to control your urge to hoard free food at every opportunity haha. Sometimes I have to just avoid events entirely to stay away from free food that might tempt me. (This is actually a picture of artificial food, but it was the closest I could find to describe what I ate, surprisingly. Maybe next time I'll bring my camera…).
6:45PM Baker Dorm Dining
1 broccoli and cheddar stuffed chicken breast (400 calories) with 1.5 cups of mixed vegetables (150 calories). I substituted the roasted potatoes in the entree with an extra serving of mixed veggies, partially because it's good for you, but also because I don't really like eating roasted potatoes. They're bland and dry to me. Baker dining had these amazing looking special desserts today (of all days!), including creme brulee, chocolate mousse cakes, and other delightful things that made me want them so bad. But the thing about this blog is that I actually have to write up what I eat, so there's no lying to myself about it. I waltzed right past the whole dessert section and paid for my entree. Let's hope that they serve these featured desserts again sometime when I haven't splurged for breakfast :)
2:00AM Dorm Room, After Taking a Practice MCAT
1 small banana (90 calories) and 1 Viactiv vitamin. I grabbed the banana at the breakfast event this morning. I'm not too fond of buying bananas when I go shopping for fruit, because no matter what I do, they always end up getting too ripe and attracting fruit flies before I have a chance to eat them all. In any case, it's been a while since I had dinner, so I thought a banana would be a healthy snack to keep me going a while longer.
I have a canker sore right now, and it's been there for the past couple of days. It's starting to bother me because I can barely eat without practically biting on it. I sure hope it goes away soon. Anyway, today was about 1500 calories, so it was an okay day and I managed to keep the calorie count within norms despite eating such an unhealthy breakfast. Kind of stressing out about MCATs though, so I'll have to be careful not to give in to unhealthy comfort foods. Something that I'd like to try is to break up my meals into halves and eating them twice as often, instead of eating the whole thing in one sitting. Still the same amount of food gets eaten, but I probably won't be sitting around starving to death 8 hours after I ate my last meal. This will probably have to be more of a dinner thing, since lunch is always eat and go while I'm on campus. But it's worth a try, and it might even help ward off the dreaded after-dinner food comas when I need to be studying the most… haha.
